Animesh, who belongs to a police family, was passionate about sports since his school days, but his real career started in 2021 when coach Dinesh Tandhi saw him in a state level competition. In the early days, he did not have any professional training, spikes or track facilities, but hard work and family support did not stop him from moving forward. In 2023, he set a 200m meet record at the National Open Athletics held in Bengaluru and became recognized across the country.
By winning the 200m gold in the Federation Cup in 2024 and then registering fast timings in Spain and Europe, he proved that he has become not only a national but also an international level runner. 2025 proved to be his best year. In April, he set a new national record (20.40 seconds) in the 200m at the Federation Cup in Kochi, and then in May, he won a bronze medal at the Asian Athletics Championships in Korea, breaking his own record (20.32 seconds) while running with fever.
Then in Greece, he ran the 100m in 10.18 seconds, the first time in India’s history to record a time of less than 10.20 seconds. By July, he had become India’s sprint record holder in both 100m and 200m. At the 2025 National Games, he dominated the track by winning gold in all three – 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. He is now being coached at the High Performance Centre in Odisha, where he is improving technically under the guidance of foreign coaches.
